To investigate the selective reactivity of the monoclonal
antibody CALL1 for malignant hemopoietic cells, 102 cases of acute
leukemia, blast crisis of chronic granulocytic leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma &
chronic lymphocytic leukemia were examined. The monoclonal antibody
CALL1 could define a major subgroup or ALL, common ALL, having a
favorable prognosis. Of 26 non-ALL acute leukemias investigated, 8 were
CALL1 positive. These included 5 cases diagnosed as AML,
2TdT+ blast crises of CGL and 1 case diagnosed as acute undifferenciated
leukemia. Of the CALL1+ AML, 2 were subsequently
rediagnosed either as ALL or mixed lymphoid-myeloid leukemia. Sixteen cases of
mature lymphoid cell leukemia were investigated with CALL1 : 1 case
only, T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma, was positive. This study shows the selective
reactivity of CALL1 with common ALL antigen-positive cells and
emphasizes the diagnostic value of CALL1 in differential diagnosis of acute
leukemia.
